Community Involvement

Lower Moreland Township police officers take great pride in the relationships that the department has formed with citizens and community groups. Whether it’s riding the bus to school with Pine Road students or stopping by an HVAA game to say hello, our officers are proud to take an active role as members of the community they serve. Lower Moreland Township police officers are available to speak about crime prevention programs including community policing, neighborhood watch, security surveys, workplace violence, identity theft, retail security, computer safety, drug/alcohol awareness, terrorism, bicycle safety/helmets, juvenile crimes and more. Bus Stop Buddies
The Bus Stop Buddies program began in May of 2019 as a way forimage of officers with children Lower Moreland police officers to better connect with students of all ages. In cooperation with the Lower Moreland Township School District, police officers participating in the program ride random buses to school, giving them an opportunity to talk to students about drugs, bullying and other topics.

Coffee with a Cop
Beginning in 2015, the Lower Moreland Township Police Department has been participating in the national “Coffee with a Cop” program. These sessions provide citizens an opportunity to voice concerns, ask questions and get to know their local police officers. Coffee with a cop sessions are held at local establishments and all are welcome to attend.

Operation Reassurance
Lower Moreland Township participates in a program with Abington Memorial Hospital that benefits senior citizens called Operation Reassurance. For some older adults, relocating to live with family or friends is not an option. Living alone may help maintain independence; however, there may be times when assistance is needed. Operation Reassurance, a service of Abington Memorial Hospital, provides participants age 60 and older with the assurance that every day they can speak with a trained staff member to make sure that they are safe and sound. The goal is to enable seniors living in eastern Montgomery County to live independently and feel confident and secure.

Youth Aid Panel
The Youth Aid Panel program, administered by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office and run by a panel of Lower Moreland residents, provides a second chance for juvenile offenders. The Youth Aid Panel program is open to first-time juvenile offenders that have committed a non-violent crime, have no prior criminal history, and are willing to admit their involvement in the crime. Focused on education over simple punishment, the Youth Aid Panel program may stipulate that juvenile offenders complete an educational program, perform community-based service work, make restitution payments or write a letter of apology. Juveniles who satisfactorily complete the requirements set by the Youth Aid Panel are not charged criminally for their offence.
